US Open: Stan Wawrinka cancels start in New York
Stan Wawrinka will not participate in the US Open due to persistent problems with his left foot.

A few days ago, Stan Wawrinka had given his supporters hopes of an early comeback with positive news , as it became known on Monday, but the fans of the Swiss will have to be patient a little longer: The three-time Grand Slam winner will also be with do not start the US Open.
Wawrinka had to undergo operations on her left foot twice this year and was therefore already absent from the French Open and Wimbledon. The 36-year-old played his last match to date on March 9 at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, where he lost to Lloyd Harris in three sets.
By canceling the veteran, the organizers of the US Open also lose a former winner: Wawrinka had triumphed in New York in 2016 and achieved his third and so far last major triumph. When the world number 31. will return to the tour is still unclear.
It is clear, however, that Andy Murray will not need a wildcard for the US Open. After Wawrinka's cancellation, the Scot slipped straight into the main field of the last Grand Slam event of the year.
