The USTA message begins with the note: Please do not forget that all hygiene protocols can still change. After being granted permission by Governor Andrew Cuomo to hold the US Open and also the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier Mandatory event scheduled for Cincinnati at the National Tennis Center in New York, the players can now use the following dates and Set circumstances (and make up with yourself whether you want to travel to the US or not).
- The Cincinnati tournament will be played in New York City from August 22nd to 28th (qualification on August 20th and 21st), with a 56 tableau in the main field and 48 seats in the respective qualification tournaments.
- The US Open will be played on the regular date from August 31st. Without qualification, with the usual 128-tableau for the individual main fields. 32 pairs are permitted for the doubles.
- $ 6.6 million will be made available to compensate for the drop in wages of those players who have lost their seats in the tournaments. The distribution takes place via the ATP.
- The journey to New York City is made individually, not as presented a few days ago, by charter flights.
- The players will be tested on COVID-19 before arriving in New York, after which there will be one or two tests per week.
- USTA will reserve two hotel rooms for each player, which can accommodate a maximum of two people. The cost of the second room is borne by the players.
- Players also have the option to live privately outside of Manhattan. The USTA supports the search for suitable accommodation. The cost of this is estimated at $ 40,000 per athlete.
- At the tournament facility, all players and their guests are required to wear protective masks. Exceptions: when training on the courts, during matches and when training in the fitness center.
