Exciting to see if anything will come of it? In a conversation with the sports platform ESPN, US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro said that the organizers of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year offered the 33-year-old to present himself properly on the big stage of his many at the 2023 edition to say goodbye to fans.

Despite severe pain in his right knee, Del Potro had given his "previous" farewell performance at the home clay court tournament in Buenos Aires at the beginning of the year. He lost there without a real chance against his compatriot Federico Delbonis with 1: 6 and 3: 6 and burst into tears in his acceptance speech afterwards.

"Priority is to be able to live without pain"

He wanted to keep the back door open for a possible return, but reiterated that he must first and foremost look for a treatment that suits him: "My priority today is to be able to live without pain."

"If I can find treatment I would be very happy to return to the tour and the tournament organizers have offered me to say goodbye here next year," continued the six-foot-tall man. Like del Potro himself, his fans should still have hope - a short comeback of the "Tower of Tandil" would definitely be a nice story.
