Venus Williams doesn't need a wildcard for the main competition of the US Open

At the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, Venus Williams, now a remarkable 41 Lenze, is not dependent on the grace of a wildcard for the main competition. As the organizers of the US Open announced, the seven-time Grand Slam winner slipped into the 128 main field of the major tournament in New York thanks to the cancellation of the Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

The world rankings 80. Flipkens had to withdraw from the Flushing Meadows event due to a long-standing injury to his left ankle. The wildcard that was released was given to the 20-year-old American talent Alycia Parks.

Venus Williams is a two-time US Open winner (2000, 2001) and will compete in New York for the 23rd time in 2021 - for the 15th time in a row. Since her first appearance in 1997, when she was able to advance straight into the final, the right-hander had only missed the US Open twice (2003, 2006).
