Turbulent days on the part of the highest tennis officials around the world. First the tournament director of the French Open and also of the ATP Masters 1000 event from Paris-Bercy Guy Forget resigned from his position, now there is also a personnel rogue at the top of the USTA. Accordingly, the current CEO Michael Dowse will step down in March of next year.

The USTA announced this in a broadcast on Wednesday evening (CET). Dowse only took over as CEO in October 2019, but has since led the USTA through the biggest crisis of recent history - the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite global restrictions, the tournament was able to take place in 2020 and this year.

Progress for the sport of tennis in the USA

"The USTA is in a strong position for the future," Dowse was quoted as saying in the broadcast. "And I am convinced that I will leave you in good hands and well-positioned for success." According to the outgoing CEO, sport has not only developed at the highest level of sport - the US Open - there is also progress to be observed at the grassroots level. Accordingly, there would have been over four million new players in the last two years.

The President of the USTA Michael J. McNully III also thanked Dowses for his achievements in the broadcast: "We would like to thank Mike for his dedication to tennis and the steady hand that he had in the course of this extraordinary challenge (note COVID-19 Pandemic). He led the USTA through two years of pandemic, held two US Open that no one thought would be possible, and helped bring the USTA back to its mission: The sport on one to let the local level grow. " A successor should be found by Michael Dowse's departure in March 2022.
