The seven-time Grand Slam winner was already equipped with a tape bandage at the beginning of the match: Her left knee had to be supported. At the score of 1: 5 from her point of view, a momentous mishap happened to her. She twisted her right ankle, screamed, and immediately hobbled over to her bench.
She used two medical timeouts, one for the ankle, which she had bandaged, and then one for the knee. But she continued her game to thunderous applause, but didn't succeed in a single game after that.
In the first round on Monday she had shown a victory over Kirsten Flipkens, followed by an emotional post on Instagram on Wednesday.
One can never fully prepare for "triumph or disaster" in sport or in life, she wrote. "You can't control everything. But you can control how you handle the ups and downs."
And further: "No matter how it turns out, I'll always keep my head up and leave everything in the field. I don't want to regret anything because I haven't given my all. Always look ahead, because as big as your dream may be, it could come true ... "

Errani is now playing in a surprising third round game against Hsieh Su-wei, which Bianca Andreescu eliminated 6: 3, 6: 2. "I don't want to win like that," said Errani, number 134 in the world. "I'm very sorry for her. I was shocked and at first didn't understand what she was doing. I was afraid for her."
Errani was once in the top 10 of the WTA rankings and in the final of the French Open (2012). In February 2017, she tested positive for the banned substance letrozole and was banned for a total of ten months.
