Shingo Kunieda has retired

A few weeks ago, Shingo Kunieda was still in Tokyo with his brand colleagues Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori on a stage in Tokyo to attend a press conference hosted by the joint supplier. Federer was already officially a tennis pensioner at that time, the situation with Nishikori is not quite so clear, but only the greatest optimists believe in a comeback for the long-term injured Japanese.

And so Kunieda was the one who could still be trusted to win big titles. Alone: Nothing came of it anymore. Because a few days ago, the most successful wheelchair tennis player of all time announced his immediate retirement on social media. Short and painless: "Today, January 22nd, I have decided to resign. Thanks everyone"

Kunieda has won an incredible 50 Grand Slam titles, the last in 2022 in Wimbledon, 17 years ago he stormed to the top of the world rankings for the first time. He is still based there. Kunieda said he thinks he's achieved enough. There is no doubt about it.
