Wimbledon 2017 - When Roger Federer crowned himself the record winner

Roger Federer said recently that he missed Wimbledon. A year without the turf event that has shaped his life so much is somehow incomplete for the 38-year-old Swiss. He will think of that again this Thursday. Because then is a very special triumph in the great career of "King Roger" for the third time.

The Basel player made himself immortal at the All England Championships on July 16, 2017 at the latest. Federer achieved his historic eighth triumph with a 6: 3, 6: 1 and 6: 4 in the final against Croatian Marin Cilic, 14 years after his title premiere. He was now the sole record winner ahead of Pete Sampras (USA) and William Renshaw (Great Britain).

"Writing history at Wimbledon makes me happy. I love this tournament, in which all my dreams as a player have come true," Federer said before the final, which he finished after only 1:41 hours. He had been waiting for this moment five years after his last triumph in 2012.

After the ace to win the tournament, he clasped his hands over his head and struggled with the great emotions that he would like to relive. When Federer, who is currently fighting for connection after two knee operations, returns to Wimbledon in June 2021, he will be almost 40 years old.

It is likely that he will give the tournament a very special focus. After all, Federer wants to make history again with his 21st Grand Slam victory. Preferably again on the Sacred Lawn of Wimbledon.
