Unforgotten are the pictures when Nick Kyrgios , together with Thanasi Kokkinakis, not only enchanted the crowds in Melbourne once this year and the two ultimately also won the title in the doubles competition at the Australian Open. In Wimbledon, the two Australians will now reunite in the Grand Slam.

In the run-up to the tournament, however, Kyrgios did not leave a good hair on the format of the doubles competition. In Wimbledon - unlike the other three major events - the pair skating is also held in best-of-five mode. "I think that's the dumbest thing ever, to be brutally honest," said Kyrgios.

This format is not attractive for either the players or the spectators, the 27-year-old continues: "I'm happy, but I'm also afraid that if it's 1-1 after sets, I'll have to play three more rounds of doubles ." That was also the reason why he had always avoided pair skating at Wimbledon in the past.

This year Kyrgios will also compete in doubles for the first time, he and Kokkinakis meeting Soonwoo Kwon and Aljaz Bedene in round one. In singles, the world number 45 opens on Tuesday against the British Paul Jubb.
