Wimbledon 2022: Serena Williams receives wildcard for singles competition
Thanks to a wildcard, Serena Williams will compete in the singles competition of this year's Wimbledon tournament.

It's official: Serena Williams will also take part in the singles competition in Wimbledon in 2022. As the organizers announced on Tuesday - one day earlier than originally planned - the 40-year-old received a wild card for the main competition.
A few hours earlier, Williams had announced her participation in Wimbledon in a somewhat cryptic post. Before her appearance in London, the 23-single Grand Slam winner will serve in Eastbourne - alongside Ons Jabeur she will attack in doubles at the WTA 500 tournament.
Williams made her last appearance so far in 2021 in the first round of Wimbledon. Against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the longtime world number one had to retire after only six games due to a knee injury .
