"It was a very solid match. The serve may not have been as good, apart from that there were many positive moments," said Nadal, who reached his seventh Wimbledon quarter-final. "I was close to winning another title here last year. I feel very comfortable on the pitch, that was a good game."
From the start, Sousa had to take great risks to become dangerous to Nadal at all. The 30-year-old, who was the first Portuguese professional to make it into the second week of a Grand Slam, made too many mistakes of his own compared to Nadal.
Nadal, on the other hand, was particularly impressed by the backhand, but kept running around it to put pressure on the forehand. After a little less than two hours, the 82-time tournament winner was the quarter-finalist.
