For Federer, it was already the 100th match win at Wimbledon and his 352nd win in a Grand Slam - both best values.

"It was difficult. Especially the beginning was brutal, it almost only beat return winners. I had to change my game, it was very important that I could do better in the second set. In the end I served really well. That was it very important against a good return player, "said Federer after the game.

"I have a lot of information about Nadal's game, but he has that about me too," said Federer with a smile when asked about the semi-finals. "It was fun to play against him in Paris and it would be nice if it happened again here."

Kei Nishikori takes the first set against Federer

Nishikori started the game furiously and immediately took his opponent's serve off with poisonous returns in the first game of the game. In the second service game Federers he also earned a 0:40, but could not decide the game for himself.

The Japanese came under pressure for the first time at the 3-2 level, but fended off Federer's only break option. After 45 minutes, he converted his first set ball.

Roger Federer turns the match

The second sentence presented a completely different picture. Federer increased enormously on return and scored 12 of the first 13 points. With another break to 5: 1, he equalized against a waning Nishikori after only 23 minutes in the sets.

Federer also became more and more secure with his own serve over the course of the game. He often served close to the lines compared to his opponent, number eight on the seed list only had a break chance in the tenth game of the third set. At this point, Federer already led to a 4: 3 thanks to a break and also won the third set, 6: 4.

In the fourth set, Nishikori faced breakballs in his first three service games. Federer partly achieved this in a spectacular way, but was unable to take advantage of the opportunities.

But the trend continued: Federer managed his serve confidently, while exerting more pressure on the return. Ultimately, Nishikori made four uncommon mistakes in the ninth game and gave up the serve. After 2 hours and 38 minutes he was the winner and moved to the Wimbledon semi-finals for the 13th time.
