World Team Tennis: Sabine Lisicki beats Venus Williams - and is traded

Lisicki was still part of the New York Empire team on Sunday, in which Kim Clijsters had caused a sensation in the previous individual games. Venus Williams competes for the Washington Kastles. Lisicki only needed 45 minutes for her 5-3 victory against the seven-time major winner. And it should not be the only success of the evening for the Berliner: In the women's doubles, she defeated Kveta Peschke Venus a second time - the American had started with Arina Rodionova.

However, this was Lisicki's last appearance for New York: That same evening she was transferred together with Peschke to the San Diego Aviators team, in exchange for Nicole Melichar and CoCo Vandeweghe. The premiere for Lisicki went wrong for San Diego on the next match day: Lisicki lost 0: 5 to Jessica Pegula.

Sofia Kenins team leads

The playoff of the World Team Tennis Series is contested by the four teams. At the top of the table are the Philadelphia Freedoms (for which Australian Open winners Sofia Kenin and Taylor Fritz stand on the court) with a 9: 2 record ahead of the Chicago Smash (with Sloane Stephens and Eugenie Bouchard) with nine wins and three losses. Lisicki's new team is beaten off last.

Sabine Lisicki is only in position 595 in the current WTA world rankings. The 30-year-old, who is often plagued by injuries, played her last professional match last summer at the ITF tournament in Karlsruhe.
