Barbora Krejcikova is through to the round of 16 in Adelaide

The 2022 season did not go well for Barbora Krejcikova, especially at the beginning. In the fall, the 2021 French Open winner got going better, for example defeating Iga Swiatek in an epic final in Ostrava. Now Krejcikova has made a successful start at the second WTA Tour 500 tournament in Adelaide. The Czech won against Alison Riske-Amritraj 6:2 and 7:6 (3).

Before the tournament started, the three top-seeded players Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula had withdrawn, now Caroline Garcia leads the tableau ahead of Daria Kasatkina. Krejcikova has to face them in round two.

Azarenka loses to Kudermetova

Somewhat surprisingly, Amanda Anisimova beat Liudmilla Samsonova 7:5 and 6:3. Anisimova now plays against Beatriz Haddad Maia. Petra Kvitova was able to assert herself against Elena Rybakina in a duel between two Wimbledon winners on Monday.

On the other hand, Victoria Azarenka, who had to admit defeat to Veronika Kudermetova 6:2, 6:7 (4) and 4:6 in a nearly three-hour marathon, was eliminated. Kudermetova meets her Russian compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova in the round of 16.

Finally, Paula Badosa won the evening game against Anett Kontaveit 6:4 and 6:3. The Spaniard gave up only two points on her own serve in the first set. Badosa now plays against Kaia Kanepi.
