The Estonian beat Maria Sakkari from Greece 6: 2, 7: 5 in the final and won her biggest title so far. Kontaveit had won two WTA tournaments so far, but both had lower endowments. Most recently she was only successful in Cleveland at the end of August.

In general, the 25-year-old played a strong week again, not giving a set in her victories over Paula Badosa, Belinda Bencic, Petra Kvitova and now Sakkari, among others.

In the world rankings, Kontaveit will improve from 30th to 23rd place.

Maria Sakkari cracks the top 10

Speaking of the world rankings: Sakkari will surely like to admire himself there too. It will move up to 10th place tomorrow and will be among the top 10 for the first time.

Sakkari had reached the semi-finals at the French Open and US Open this year.
