WTA Bad Homburg: Halep does not compete - Andreescu and Garcia in the final

Former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep (Romania) gave up before her semifinals at the grass tournament in Bad Homburg. This makes Bianca Andreescu the first finalist in the spa town. The Canadian is playing for her first title since triumphing at the 2019 US Open on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with a blockage in the neck," said Halep. "This circumstance doesn't allow me to give my best on the pitch." The former world number one will be at Wimbledon next week. In the first round she meets the Czech Karolina Muchova, who has already reached the quarter-finals twice at the All England Club.

Andreescu will face either Caroline Garcia in Bad Homburg on Saturday: The French beat Alize Cornet 7: 6 (9), 3: 6 and 7: 5.
