Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur made history and became the first tennis player from Tunisia to win a WTA tournament. The 26-year-old defeated Daria Kasatkina 7: 5, 6: 4 in the final of the WTA event in Birmingham.

Jabeur had already been in a final twice, in Moscow in 2018 and in Charleston in 2021, both times she lost - in Moscow, by the way, against today's opponent Kasatkina in just three sets.

Kasatkina as Wolverine

In the Birmingham final, Jabeur served the first round in the second attempt and pulled away with a double break in the second round. Kasatkina, however, had to take a somewhat unusual injury break after scratching her left neck area.

Jabeur can still land the double strike because she is also in the final in doubles. At the side of Ellen Perez, she meets Lucie Hradecka / Marie Bouzkova. Here, too, she is playing for her first tournament victory at WTA level.
