As on the ATP tour , the original tournament calendar awaits the women again after two unusual years. There are only small changes at the start of the season, as the Australian Open will start a month earlier than last season (January 17th).

Therefore, the first women's event of the coming season will no longer take place in Abu Dhabi, but in Australia. While there will be a 500cc tournament in Adelaide in the first week of January, two 250cc events will take place in Melbourne at the same time. In the week before the Australian Open, in addition to qualifying for the first major tournament of the year, two events will take place in Sydney (500) and Adelaide (250).

After the Australian Open, the WTA tour will follow its traditional structure until the end of the grass season at Wimbledon. In the first half of the season, the WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Rome as well as eight WTA 500 events and at least 15 WTA 250 tournaments are on the program.

As usual, the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris (May 22 to June 5) and Wimbledon (June 27 to July 9) are highlights of the clay court and grass season. "The 2022 WTA calendar will once again offer the best tennis players in the world a prestigious stage," said WTA boss Steve Simon, who, in view of the Peng Shuai case, is "suspending all tournaments in China with immediate effect" . The effects of this decision should be evident in the tournament schedule for the second half of the year.
