Before Julia Grabher, Yvonne Meusburger was the last Austrian tennis lady to be in the top 100 of the WTA world rankings - and that was most recently on January 19, 2015. So one woman from Vorarlberg follows another woman from Vorarlberg, and that was from a domestic point of view also urgently needed for more than seven and a half years.
In any case, Grabher's first tournament success on the WTA tour level at the Challenger tournament in Bari did not harm Austria's number one. The 26-year-old made a successful start to the $115,000 clay court event in Bucharest.
At the start in Romania, Grabher defeated the local hero A Rosca, who had a wild card, 6:0, 6:3 after 76 minutes of play. In the round of 16 she will face five-seeded Egyptian Mayar Sherif. The two players have never met on a professional level before.
