It took Barty 2 hours and 23 minutes to show the American Rogers 7: 6 (3), 4: 6, 6: 4 in the bars.

"Shelby hits the balls super well, you always have to work hard against them, for every point, every match. It was no different today," said the world number one afterwards. It was the third match between the two of them this year, and Barty won them all. "Sometimes it works like that, you play against the same player over and over again. And at other times you don't meet for years.

Barty now meets Paula Badosa.

Stephens again with a sense of achievement

Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens are also on. Gauff defeated Lauren Davis 6: 2, 7: 6 (2) and thus moved into her first quarter-final on sand, she now meets Ons Jabeur.

Stephens won against Ajla Tomljanovic 6: 3, 6: 4. For them it is again a success after a long dry spell: Stephens reached the last quarter-finals at the French Open 2019. Until the Charleston tournament she was still without a win in 2021. The US Open winner from 2017 is currently only 57th in the world.
