At least one seeded player made it into the final of the WTA Tour 500 tournament in Charleston: Veronika Kudermetova, who entered the event as number 15, had just as few problems with Paula Badosa in the second semifinals at 6: 3 and 6: 3 like her final opponent on Sunday, Danka Kovinic, with Ons Jabeur. As twelfth on the seeding list, the Tunisian was the best placed player in the semi-finals. Had no chance against Kovinic at 3: 6, 2: 6.

The Montenegrin had defeated the rising Canadian Leylah Fernandez in three sets on her way to the final in round two and then made short work of Petra Kvitova, number three in Charleston 2021. Kudermetova, on the other hand, did not have to compete against a single seeded player, but at least defeated Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open winner, in the quarter-finals.

Tournament favorite Ashleigh Barty failed after her triumph in Miami in the quarterfinals to Badosa. Number two, Sofia Kenin, lost her opening match against Lauren Davis.
