What remains of Angelique Kerber's weeks on the North American continent is by no means the close and so bitter defeat in the round of 16 of the US Open against the later finalist Leylah Fernandez. No, rather, it is a strong exclamation point in Germany's number one to have a serious say about the biggest titles on the women's tour - and to be able to compete with the best players in the world.

Accordingly, it is not surprising that the Bremen resident will extend her stay in North America. As it became known on Friday, the 33-year-old will be equipped with a wildcard at the WTA 500 event in Chicago. The event will start on September 27th and, besides Kerber, will be able to present another extremely prominent wildcard player in the draw.

Kim Clijsters, the comeback queen from Belgium. The 38-year-old had already hinted at the US Open that she definitely wanted to add more stations to her comeback tour. So the first one will be a line-up in Chicago. This is the first tournament for Clijsters in over a year, since her first round defeat at the US Open 2020, the 41-time WTA Tour winner had made herself rare.
