Angelique Kerber will not start at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Cincinnati

The three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber decided not to start at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Cincinnati in preparation for the US Open. This was announced by the management of the 34-year-old at SID's request. After failing in the third round at Wimbledon, Kerber took a break and only started training again late.

The German number one chooses a different approach than in the previous year. At that time she reached the semi-finals in Cincinnati before going down in New York in the round of 16 against eventual finalist Leylah Fernandez. In 2022, Kerber has so far won the title in Strasbourg. She triumphed at the US Open in 2016.

From the current point of view, only Andrea Petkovic in the US state of Ohio will be involved from a German perspective. The 34-year-old is currently the last player directly reserved for qualification.
