Iga Swiatek wants to use her position as number one in the world rankings to drive improvements in the tour calendar

Since September 10, when Iga Swiatek won the title at this year's US Open against Ons Jabeur in the final, the Pole has not played a match on the WTA Tour. From next Monday, however, the world number one will serve at the WTA Tour 500 hard court event in Ostrava (Czech Republic).

The indoor tournament, which is endowed with 757,900 US dollars, is consistently top-ranked, even apart from the top players in the industry. Paula Badosa, Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari as well as Belinda Bencic and the two local heroes Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova in East Moravia are also part of the game. And there's a good reason for that... Collect points quickly!

"I will take steps"

The tournament calendar of the women's tour is drawing to a close at lightning speed. Another 500 event in San Diego, California, followed by a WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, is waiting for the top players before the WTA finals in Fort Worth, Texas from October 31st to November 7th , to win.

And so back to Swiatek, who recently gave the following clear words about the intensity of the coming weeks in an interview with the sports platform "sport.pl": "I'm not happy at all, I'm very dissatisfied, but I understand that it's complicated is to find a solution. The fact that the WTA and ITF are not working together to ease our situation irritates me."

Finally, the 21-year-old from Warsaw has the prospect of using her sporting position for sports-political issues: "I will take steps, let them know my dissatisfaction. I am now in a position where I can generate this influence. And maybe prevent it that something like this will happen again in the next few years."
