Tamara Korpatsch lost in round one

Lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch didn't use her second chance at the WTA 250 tournament in Cleveland. The 28-year-old German, who replaced the injured Venus Williams in the main draw, lost to Mirra Andreeva in the first round 0:6, 6:3 and 5:7. In the third set, Korpatsch served to win the match.

Barbora Krejcikova, number two of the tournament, was also eliminated. The 2021 French Open winner lost to Clara Tauson 4: 6 and 1: 6. The Dane now meets Leylah Fernandez.

Things went better for top seeded Caroline Garcia. The seventh in the world rankings from France is in the round of 16 after beating Linda Fruhvirtova 6:3 and 6:2. There she gets to deal with the American Peyton Stearns.
