Aryna Sabalenka is number one seeded at the WTA tournament in Doha

All hell is breaking loose in Dubai - at least as far as women's tennis is concerned in the coming week. The field of participants at the WTA Tour 500 event in the largest city in the United Arab Emirates is really excellent - eight players from the top 10 of the WTA ranking are starting. Only Australian Open champions Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic are doing without the event, which is endowed with 768,680 US dollars.

At the top of the tableau, as is so common in tennis tournaments, we find Aryna Sabalenka, second in the world rankings, the number one of the hard court event, which is taking place for the 22nd time. The Belarusian faces a qualifier in round one. The first seeded challenger in the quarter-finals could be the Pole Iga Swiatek, who has to play against the 2018 finalist Daria Kasatkina (Russia) at the start.

St.Petersburg finalists in the bottom half

Spain's Paula Badosa, ranked third, also opens against an opponent from the prelims, possibly meeting Romania's Simona Halep in the round of 16. A quarter-final against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur would be the following duel according to the paper form. The draw with the game Garbine Muguruza against Danielle Collins was a real hour-hammer. In the head-to-head between the defending champion from Spain and the Australian Open finalist of this year, it is currently balanced 1: 1.

If Muguruza wins, he might have a clash with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka in the round of 16, while the tennis fanatic is pinning his hopes on a quarter-final clash with St. Petersburg finalist Anett Kontaveit (Estonia). Number two Barbora Krejcikova could face Maria Sakkari (also in the St Petersburg final) in the last eight. First, however, the Czech must take her opener Caroline Garcia (France) out of the competition.

Here is the individual tableau from Doha.
