Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova achieved confident opening victories at the WTA 500 tournament in Dubai.

Easy gallop for Simona Halep at the WTA 500 tournament in Dubai: The former world number one easily prevailed in the first round against the American Alison Riske 6: 2 and 6: 4. The Romanian needed just over 70 minutes to win. Halep could face Paula Badosa in the next round. For that, the Spaniard would have to win against Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Tuesday.
Petra Kvitova completed her first round task a little faster than Halep. The Czech, who had disappointing performances so far in 2022, beat Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-0 after just 68 minutes of play thanks to a brilliant performance. In round two she will face top seeded Aryna Sabalenka or Marta Kostyuk.
A little earlier on Monday, Iga Swiatek, Barbora Kreijcikova and Jessica Pegula had bought their second-round tickets at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates .
