After 102 minutes of play Belinda Bencic summed up all her remaining match energy: first for a backhand pass, which helped the Swiss in the match against Petra Kvitova for the crucial break in the third set. And then immediately to a cry of relief. Especially since the match was up there on the knife edge. Bencic beat them 6: 3, 1: 6 and 6: 4 and face Kiki Bertens on Thursday. The Dutch who replaced Naomi Osaka won her group match  against world number one Ashleigh Barty.

Bencic had only secured the qualification for the final tournament in Shenzhen at the WTA tournament in Moscow. Just over a year ago, the Swiss had to prove herself on the second level of professional women's tennis, now Bencic is among the top eight in the world.
