Andreescu has been a more aggressive and variable player for a long time, taking an early lead. Although Halep managed to equalize in the meantime, the US Open winner decided sentence 1 for themselves. In set 2 Halep had a break in front two times, but had to accept the 4: 4, even after a short break Andreescus in the break ball because of a small wound on the shin. At the 5: 6 Halep finally fended off a match point, in the tiebreak she did not use two set balls before she made the set compensation.

Andreescu seemed to be handicapped on the back, allowed himself to be treated in the sentence break. In the end, Halep seemed to be more powerful with the player. Five breaks set in the crucial third set, Halep scoring the crucial 5: 3 that she served.

"It was damn hard, she played to the end, without giving up," she said afterwards. "I have not played so much since Wimbledon, I'm a bit flat, so I have some time to rest tomorrow."

At noon Elina Svitolina had already won her game against Karolina Pliskova.
