The best-occupied field of participants has Brisbane to offer this week, no question. But great tennis is also offered in Auckland: Serena Williams competes in Australia for the second time, Julia Görges starts defending her title, and Caroline Wozniacki probably plays her penultimate tournament. However, many eyes are also on Cori Gauff . The still 15-year-old American celebrated her first tournament victory last year after her amazing run at Wimbledon in Linz in autumn.

And now also a formidable start to the tennis year 2020. Against Viktoria Kuzmova, Gauff only needed 62 minutes to go 6: 3 and 6: 1 as the winner. The second round is either against Laura Siegemund or Alison van Uytwanck, who only face each other on Tuesday.

Muguruza successful with new trainer

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and Margarita Gasparyan didn't stay long in Shenzhen. The Belarusian won 6: 3 and 6: 0. Garbine Muguruza was also successful at the beginning of the year. The 2017 Wimbledon winner had said goodbye to her coach Sam Sumyk in the offseason and is now trying with Conchita Martinez, who had already worked with Muguruza as the Spanish Fed Cup boss.

Muguruza struggled with the Chinese wildcard Xinyu Wang in Shenzhen at the beginning, ultimately winning 3: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 0. Should Muguruza also solve the second task, she would meet the number one of the tournament in the quarterfinals as planned: the Swiss Belinda Bencic.
