Iga Swiatek still has the chance to defend her title at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells: In the quarter-finals, the three-time Grand Slam winner beat Sorana Cirstea 6-2 and 6-3. Thus, the Pole did not drop a set in the Californian desert this year.

Swiatek meets Elena Rybakina in the semifinals on Friday. The reigning Wimbledon winner had to fight much harder in their quarterfinal match than the world number one. The Kazakh needed two hours and 45 minutes against Karolina Muchova to win 7: 6 (4), 2: 6 and 6: 4.

Already on Wednesday (local time) Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari had made it into the semi-finals. While the newly crowned Australian Open winner didn't give Cori Gauff a chance , Sakkari narrowly defeated Petra Kvitova 4: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 1.
