October 10th should slowly become Iga Swiatek's favorite day: Exactly 365 days ago, the Polish woman won the title at the French Open and a year later she could look forward to a success. Well, Swiatek shouldn't have had as much joy as twelve months ago after the 6-1 and 6-0 victory over Veronika Kudermetova, but the 20-year-old's performance will have been quite good.
Because Swiatek, placed second in Indian Wells, showed a sensational performance on Court 1 and gave her Russian opponent no chance at all. In round four she will now face Jelena Ostapenko or Yulia Putintseva.

With Elina Svitolina there is also a favorite for the title in the round of 16. The number four of the tournament defeated Sorana Cirstea in a gripping match with 4: 6, 6: 4 and 7: 6 (3). The world number seven will meet Jessica Pegula or Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16.
