Indian Wells isn't that far from Las Vegas, so some of the local bookies could well get an idea of the balance of power at the WTA 1000 tournament at Tennis Paradise. Then one or the other would probably not have happened to NOT consider Barbora Krejcikova among the five most promising candidates for the final.

The Czech, on the other hand, won't really care. Krejcikova, who last won the final against Iga Swiatek in Dubai, defeated Dayana Yastremska 6-1 and 6-2 in her first match in Indian Wells.

Sabalenka is in a hurry

There was a special duel between Jil Teichmann and Belinda Bencic: the two Swiss women had won the silver medal together in doubles at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo (Bencic even won gold in singles). In Indian Wells they had to play against each other early on. And Teichmann surprisingly won 3:6, 6:3 and 6:3. Kindly, Bencic and Teichmann also compete as a doubles pair in Indian Wells and have already survived the first round.

Aryna Sabalenka had no problems at all with Evgeniya Rodina. The newly crowned Australian Open winner prevailed 6: 2 and 6: 1. And Cori Gauff is one lap further. The local hero defeated Cristina Bucsa 6-2 and 6-4.
