A small but fine run by Julia Grabher came to an end in the quarter-finals of the WTA Tour 250 tournament in Istanbul: Austria's number one in women's tennis, who had initially fought her way through qualification successfully, had to retire in the third main competition match in the Turkish capital finally beat Sorana Cirstea (WTA 24) from Romania after a strong first set 5:7, 1:6. The two protagonists played a total of 78 minutes on the center court of the TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championships.

Previously, the world number 194. Victories over the local hero Pemra Özgen (WTA 320) and the Swiss Jill Teichmann (WTA 37), who was ranked fifth, and thus ensured her first two victories on the WTA tour. With a total of 69 world ranking points, the woman from Vorarlberg will find herself around 155 in the women's ranking from Monday. In the semi-finals, Cirstea will face either Hungary's Anna Bondar or Russia's Veronika Kudermetova, who is seeded on three.
