Actually, it should have been the Australian Open, where Kim Clijsters is back on the WTA tour after her (second) resignation in 2012. But the now 36-year-old suffered a setback in training, pulled the sideband. An operation was not necessary, the Belgian was treated at her own academy in Bree.

"I'm really happy with my progress and it's great to be back on the court and playing tennis," said Clijsters. "It was a setback, but it also showed me how willing I am to go back to the sport I love."

The plan now is for Clijsters to make a comeback at the WTA International Event in Monterrey (March 2 to 8, 2020) and then play in Indian Wells. After that it should go to the ashes of Charleston. Clijsters lost their last competition match at the 2012 US Open in the second round against Laura Robson 6: 7 (4) and 6: 7 (5).
