The 2021 tennis season is over for Kristina Mladenovic. The Frenchwoman, who has been extremely successful in doubles in recent years, pulls the ripcord after a rather mixed tennis year. Actually, "Kiki" should have started next week at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, both in singles and doubles alongside Caroline Garcia. After losing the last 16 at this week's hard court tournament in Nur-Sultan against Russian Anastasia Potapova, the 28-year-old is now drawing a line under the current season.

Only one final in 2021 in doubles

"Hello! I regret to have to inform you that I have decided to end my season, "Dominic Thiem's ex-girlfriend told her fans on Instagram. “The last few months have been very challenging, both physically and mentally, and I now feel that it is the right time to take a break. I will use the time to fully recover and then start training for the next season. Thank you all for your support. "

Mladenovic has won 24 doubles titles in her career, five of them in Grand Slam tournaments. She was twice successful at major events in mixed. In 2021, the northern French woman, who was spoiled for success, could only take part in the final at the WTA Tour 1000 event in Rome alongside the Czech Marketa Vondrousova. She is currently in world number 62 in singles and fifth in doubles.
