A career came to an end last weekend: Lara Arruabarrena declared her active tennis career over at the age of 30. Arruabarrena had achieved her best career placing in 2017 with rank 52, in 2016 she was 28th in doubles. In total, the Iberian won 3,362,484 US dollars in prize money in her 15-year career. However, the good results for the Spaniard had been lacking, especially in the last three or four years - in 2019 she also fell out of the top 100 of the women's ranking and was subsequently unable to work her way back.

As a farewell, she posted this message on her social networks: "A very important period is coming to an end for me. What my life, my daily life, has been for as long as I can remember. Thanks to this sport that has given me so many experiences , people and friendships. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in one way or another, thanks to the sponsors who have backed me at one point or another in my career. I am eternally grateful."

Born in the Basque Country, the right-hander was able to win two individual titles on the WTA Tour - 2012 in Bogotá (Colombia) and 2016 in Seoul (South Korea). In doubles, she has won a total of eight tournaments - most recently in 2016 in Gstaad alongside Swiss Xenia Knoll. In 2019 she won the doubles title at the WTA Challenger tournament in Karlsruhe. At Grand Slam tournaments, she never got past the second main round.
