Tennis star Serena Williams has successfully started the WTA tournament in Lexington / Kentucky after a six-month corona break. The 23-time Grand Slam winner from the USA prevailed in the first round against compatriot Bernarda Pera with 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 1. In the meantime, the 23-time Grand Slam individual winner was 4: 6, 4: 4 and 0:40 behind.
Her two-year-old sister Venus Williams and Belarusian Viktoria Azarenka play the opponent in the round of 16. Williams had her last match in the Fed Cup in early February. The 38-year-old had recently confirmed her intention to take part in the US Open (from August 31) in New York.
