"Linz is like a home tournament for me," Belinda Bencic said before the WTA tournament in Linz. After just one round, the Swiss girl's performance at one of her favorite events has ended. The 22-year-old, placed second in Upper Austria, was beaten by 4: 6, 6: 2 and 2: 6 at the start.

Bencic even made up for a break in the second set, but the US Open semi-finalist was unable to take the swing of five games in a row into the third round. The early defeat means a severe setback for the Swiss in the fight for the WTA Finals. Before the event in Linz, Bencic was tenth in the Race to Shenzhen.

Friedsam, on the other hand, was able to celebrate one of the greatest victories in her career. In the second round, the German meets Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.

Also in the second round is Kristina Mladenovic. The French defeated Katerina SIniakova 6-1 and 7-5. Previously, Lucky Loser Coco Gauff and Julia Görges had won their opening games.
