The 21-year-old Lys from Hamburg won her first round match after 1:47 hours against the Russian Kamilla Rachimova 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 5). Her opponent in the next round will be between Bernarda Pera (USA/No. 7) and Dalma Galfi (Hungary) in the afternoon.

Lys, number 126 in the WTA rankings, was 5-1 down in the second set but then went on to win five games in a row to earn the tiebreak that decided the game. On Monday evening, Wimbledon quarter-finalist Niemeier, despite being behind in a set, still managed to win against the American Sofia Kenin and thus placed in the top 16.

Sakkari and Vekic in action tonight

The young Czech Linda Noskova, who caused a sensation when she reached the final in Adelaide at the beginning of the year, is no longer there. Noskova lost against Alison van Uytvanck from Belgium 6:7 (3) and 2:6. Tournament favorite Maria Sakkari is serving in Linz for the first time tonight. The Greek meets Nuria Parrizas Diaz from Spain.

All four German players will remain represented at the hard court tournament in Upper Austria, which is endowed with around 240,000 euros. Tamara Korpatsch (Hamburg) is challenged in the evening against Donna Vekic, who is number five. Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied) starts the tournament on Wednesday.

Also Julia Grabher, the only Austrian in the tableau, only starts on Wednesday. Grabher plays against the American Madison Brengle.
