Ostapenko already looked like the loser in the second set against last year's finalist, because Alexandrova was already leading 4: 1. After Ostapenko caught up, Alexandrova had a match ball that she couldn't use. In the third set, Ostapenka, who won the "French Open" in 2017, fended off three match balls before she was allowed to celebrate as a finalist.

Coco Gauff was in seventh heaven after her triumph over Andrea Petkovic, who was 17 years her senior. She patiently fulfilled requests for autographs and selfies. “I think Linz is my special place. I am very lucky and successful here. It was the first time that I slipped into a field as a Lucky Loser. Now I'm in the final. After each match, the stadium gets a little fuller. I think the fans love the tournament here. My mom arrived at 10 a.m. this morning. She actually wanted to fly to Luxembourg for my next tournament, ”said a beaming Coco Gauff.

Meet the sports stars

Tennis is the second great passion of Salzburg's skiing legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll, who regularly swings the racket at TC Kleinarl and in St. Johann. A ski Olympic champion - Michaela Dorfmeister - came with her to the WTA tournament "Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2019" on Saturday. In the semi-final match between Coco Gauff and Andrea Petkovic, Annemarie Moser-Pröll kept her fingers crossed for the 15-year-old American and was very impressed by the "mature performance" of the teenager.

Joachim Puchner, Annemarie Moser-Pröll, Harry Pancis, Viktoria Schwarz, Ana-Roxana Lehaci, Bettina Plank, Sigrid Kirchmann also joined the sporty group picture later. Below: Robert Ibertsberger, Michaela Dorfmeister and tournament ambassador Barbara Schett.
