Sakkari won the first set 6-1 against Nuria Parrizas Diaz, but had to really stretch in the second round. So the Greek didn't manage to serve out when the score was 6:5, but had to go into the tie-break. There, Sakkari missed her first match ball with a weak forehand return. But she used the second chance to make it 7:6 (6).
The Spaniard Rebekka Masarova caused a surprise, beating the number two of the tournament, Ekaterina Alexandrova, 4: 6, 6: 1 and 7: 6 (6). Masarova won the title in Roland Garros as a junior, but at that time still for Switzerland.
Camila Giorgi, the 2018 winner in Linz, had no problems. Giorgi opened her campaign with a 6:1 and 6.2 against Jaqueline Cristian. Marketa Vondrousova and Petra Martic are also one lap further.
Earlier on Tuesday, Eva Lys was a second German player after Jule Niemeier to qualify for the round of 16. Lys won against Kamilla Rakhimova 6: 4 and 7: 6 (5).
