2019 is not Angelique Kerber's year . In terms of sport, things were anything but smooth for the German, at the end of the season the 31-year-old is now also suffering from injury concerns. The world rankings-13. had to cancel her start at the tournament in Luxembourg due to a leg injury.
In addition, the organizers have to cope with another cancellation: Maria Sharapova, who already had to miss the event in Linz due to injury, cannot start in Luxembourg. The reason for this is a shoulder injury.
As in the context of the event in Upper Austria, the Russian will also answer questions from press representatives in Luxembourg. On Tuesday, the 32-year-old will have two appointments in the Grand Duchy.
Despite the two cancellations, the tournament can look forward to a good starting field: After Kerber's cancellation, Elise Mertens will be in first place, with defending champion Julia Görges immediately behind. The event takes place from October 14th to 20th.
