WTA Lyon: Caroline Garcia sovereign after a stutter start, Shuai Zhang already eliminated
The top seeded Caroline Garcia is in the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Lyon after a three-set win over Alison van Uytvanck . The defending champion and number two of the event, Shuai Zhang , however, is eliminated.

Caroline Garcia made it to the quarterfinals at the WTA 250 tournament in Lyon. After a weak start, the fifth in the world rankings won 2: 6, 6: 0 and 6: 1 against Alison van Uytvanck in front of their home crowd. On Friday she will face the Italian Jasmine Paolini.
The number two of the tournament, Shuai Zhang, had to say goodbye in the round of 16. The defending champion clearly lost 2:6 and 0:6 to Maryna Zanevska. The Belgian now meets Anastasia Potapova, who in turn defeated Claude Burel 6: 4, 4: 6 and 6: 3. Thanks to a three-set win over Anna Bondar, Danka Kovinic also made it into the last eight on Thursday.
