WTA Madrid: Angelique Kerber celebrates opening success over Marketa Vondrousova

The draw in Madrid didn’t necessarily mean well for Angelique Kerber : Already in the first round the world number 21 waited. Marketa Vondrousova a high hurdle, but the three-time Grand Slam winner was ultimately able to confidently jump over it thanks to a convincing performance.

The German started the game anything but good: Vondrousova took Kerber's serve right at the beginning, but the Czech's lead did not last for too long. After the two breaks at the beginning of the game, both players stabilized themselves with their own service, consequently a tie-break had to bring the decision. In this, Kerber prevailed just 7: 5.

The second round was then a clear affair: Kerber quickly took a 5-0 lead, only then wrote to Vondrousova. However, it was only a brief sign of life for the French Open finalist of 2019, because Kerber served extremely confidently from the first attempt to 7: 6 (5) and 6: 1 success.

In the second round, the world number 26 hits. now on the three-time Madrid winner Petra Kvitova or Marie Bouzkova.
