World number one Ashleigh Barty was the first player to reach the final of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Madrid. Barty defeated Paula Badosa 6: 4 and 6: 3.

Ashleigh Barty completed the first semifinals of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Madrid against Paula Badoas with an ace - and thus continued her impressive 2021 season. Barty had recently won the two tournaments in Miami (on hard court) and Stuttgart (indoors on clay). And is now on the verge of winning the title in the Spanish capital as well. In the final, the Australian will face either Aryna Sabalenka or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Barty had lost to Badosa in Charleston, incidentally with the same result with which she now took the final place in the Caja Magica.
