WTA: Maria Sharapova becomes a mother for the first time
Maria Sharapova is expecting her first child. The Russian announced this on her 35th birthday on Tuesday via Instagram. Sharapova has been in a relationship with British businessman Alexander Gilkes since late 2020.

The former number one in the WTA world rankings ended her career in 2020. Before that, she had won all Grand Slam tournaments at least once. Sharapova triumphed at Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008. She won the French Open in Paris in 2012 and 2014.
During her career, Maria Sharapova won a total of 36 singles titles and was successful three times in doubles. Overall, the Russian led the WTA world rankings for 21 weeks.
