Angelique Kerber started strong in the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami

The three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber (Kiel) rushed into the third round at the WTA tournament in Miami. The former world number one never let the Mexican Renata Zarazua get into the match in her opening match and prevailed 6-0, 6-0 after 1:02 hours without losing a game.

Kerber, who failed her opening hurdle in Dubai earlier this month, had a bye in the first round. In the next round, the 33-year-old meets the two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka from Belarus. Number 14 on the seeding list moved into round three without a fight, as Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) had not started due to a knee injury .

In addition to Kerber, Andrea Petkovic is also represented in Miami from a German perspective. The Darmstadt-based woman had defeated Chinese Zhang Shuai 7: 5, 6: 1 in the first round and is fighting for progress against former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin (USA).
