That wasn't even close: Aryna Sabalenka didn't let anything burn in the long-awaited knockout round in Miami against Barbora Krejcikova, winning 6: 3 and 6: 2. The two had already played against each other in Indian Wells last week, and Sabalenka was also too strong for the 2021 French Open winner. In Dubai, on the other hand, Krejcikova had prevailed after a formidable race to catch up.

Sabalenka now meets the amazing Sorana Cirstea, who was also able to hold her own against Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets.

Kvitova continues, Andreescu has to give up

For Elena Rybakina, on the other hand, the Sunshine Double remains a realistic option. The Kazakh with Russian roots won against Elise Mertens 6: 4 and 6: 3 and now meets Martina Trevisan from Italy.

Jessica Pegula carries the hopes of US fans after her two-set win against Magda Linette. Pegula will play against Anastasia Potapova from Russia in the quarterfinals. The last match of the round of eight will be played by Ekaterina Alexandrova, who benefited from the surrender of Bianca Andreescu, and Petra Kvitova.
