Jabeur beat American Ann Li 6-2, 6-3 in Round 1. She now meets Evgeniya Rodina.

"It wasn't easy, but I'm happy to have won here in Monastir," said Jabeur afterwards.

The Tunisian didn't show her best tennis, but won in the end with ease. Also crucial: Jabeur used four of their seven break chances, Li none of eight.

"You were a fantastic crowd - thank you guys for coming," Jabeur said afterwards to the delighted audience. "Thanks also to the association for putting the tournament on its feet so quickly that you brought tennis to Tunisia."

Jabeur is a superstar in Tunisia, having made tennis much more popular since her rise to the top in 2020. This year Jabeur was in the finals of both Wimbledon and the US Open.

Jabeur is top seeded in Monastir, ahead of Veronika Kudermetova.
